My Baby Has Eczema: How To Treat It

If you’re a new parent, you know just how lost you can feel. In fact, being a new parent can sometimes feel like you’re walking into the middle of a bullfight blindfolded. If you have started to notice that your little one has little red dots on their skin, they may be suffering from a condition called eczema. Eczema is a skin condition that typically causes redness, swelling, and itching. To help you treat your infant’s eczema and get out of the bullfight, we have created a brief guide. Read on to learn more.

  1. Free and Clear Laundry Detergent

If you don’t already use it, try switching your baby’s laundry detergent to a free and clear kind. Free from dyes, chemicals, and scents, this type of laundry detergent tends to be extra gentle on your little one’s skin. If you are on a budget, almost all laundry brands now offer a free and clear alternative, so you don’t have to spend more money on your baby’s comfort.

  1. Moisturize

Another thing you can do to help relieve your baby’s eczema is to apply a dermatologist recommended moisturizing cream like Eucerin to their skin a few times a day. With only a few ingredients like petrolatum, moisturizers like Eucerin will help lock in moisture while adding a protective layer to your baby’s skin. To apply Eucerin, make sure your child’s skin is freshly washed— in fact, their skin can still be a bit wet— then, with clean hands, gently rub the cream into their skin about two to three times a day. Continue use until you notice a drastic improvement.

  1. Schedule An Appointment

If at any time you notice your child’s eczema getting worse or if you just want to have it looked at, contact Georgia Dermatology Partners. During your baby’s first appointment, our dermatologists will be able to take a closer look at their skin, offer a diagnosis, and hopefully provide you with a helpful and effective treatment plan.

It’s no secret that babies have extremely sensitive skin. If you suspect that your little one has eczema, contact Georgia Dermatology Partners today to schedule an appointment!
